How's your Jersey? My Jersey is super! Thanks for asking!

Genius. Double the number of shirts, double the number of sales. At least that is the hope behind creating "away" strips for the NZ super 14 teams. Personally i dont care either way, though i am suprised there is not more yellow in the Hurricanes away strip, and due to its strong resemblance to this jersey, will it be cursed? The rest look alright, not a helavalotof difference from years gone by apart from the Blues, who really have brought the Ponsonby back into the jersey. With that print of Rangitoto it would probably look alright hanging framed on the wall of your toilet, but it does cause images such as this to spring to mind. The Crusaders away jersey is more than a bit shit.

I have a question though. Apparently the "justification", you might say, for the away jerseys is sort of covered by this:

"The main change sees each of the franchises now supplied with an official "away" jersey that will be worn for all matches on the road during the competition which kicks off on February 13.

That's a change from seasons previous, when "away" colours were only brought out when there was a jersey clash."

But what is going to happen when the Highlanders meander into downtown Christchurch for their match with the Crusaders? A farce, thats what. And probably a riot - bloody kids.

RugbyBlips: vote it up!

Yeah, that Crusaders jersey is hideous.

And how is the Blues away jersey really any different to the home one?

It's got white strips on the side instead of black and it would appear that the away shorts are shorter, in homage to the westies.

The 'Canes away jersey I like, but I hate it too because it's so... blah... It's the jersey the Navy would use if we had the whole Army v Navy thing like the States.

Hadyn... I'd do it on my blog if I had more than 3 readers [seriously, that stat tracker thing I've got is f***ing depressing], but a 'design-a-jersey' comp would be cool...

My big question is, why do teams need different away socks?

Aah, but these are away jerseys, not change strips. There'll be a third jersy for those time that the away jersey clashes with the home one. (I joke, really I do. These are shite).

Perhaps the Crusaders should change the team motto to "Jerusalem or bust" or something equally appropriate to that idiot sword motif.

Naly D, what's the URL of your blog?

What happens when the Highlanders go to Ballymore? Do the Reds wear their away strip to accommodate the merchandising drive from Dunedin? How about the Hurricanes playing the Cheetahs in Bloem?

One matchup I'd love to see, the Crusaders playing a three way cross-code tournament with the St George Illawarra Dragons NRL team and the Sydney Swans AFL team. Then you could have a great game of "Where's Wally?" in the crowd..

Then you could have a great game of "Where's Wally?" in the crowd..

You can do this at any Crusaders home game... :D

Is the guy wearing the away Highlanders strip pregnant?

The final say on uniforms is actually by the referee. If he deems that the away-side's strip is too closely aligned with the home-side then the away-team will have to wear their home-colours. Hence Otago will most likely wear blue against Canterbury.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if the Blues wore white shorts in their way strip.

All the socks are kick-ass and I won't hear a word against them.

Yes the Highlanders away strip is crap. It's clearly the Southland strip and they have crap colours.

Again Waikato is vying for best uniform of the tournament

Hadyn, I know you're biased in favour of Waikato but, after seeing the full view on your flickr - do you really want a jersey with a bum flap?

For my money, the Hurricanes jersey is the best. Not that I'd spend any money on any of them really.

After all, I've got one of these coming to me for Xmas. Sweeeeeet.

You're right. I wrote that comment before doing my full analysis. The away jersey's "fanny panel" isn't as bad as the home jersey.

All the socks are kick-ass and I won't hear a word against them.

Yeah they look cool but why two pairs? Each team has different designs to begin with, and a lot of players just pull theirs down don't they? So it can't be for distinguishing in a ruck...

Imagine how ugly the uniforms would look if the socks were the same for both strips (though the Blues manage it). Especially the Chiefs

Someone seriously needs to explain to the Blues the concept of an away strip. Even from the merchandising angle, which fan is going to buy two almost identical jerseys?

I've just been checking it out. The whole back is white. Which makes me further suspect that the shorts will be white too

Someone seriously needs to explain to the Blues the concept of an away strip.

Heh, yes.

They should be ok

I am ashamed of the Crusaders away strip. Jesus.

Just invert the red and the black, guys. Surely.

But Noizy, they can't cos then they wouldn't be following the dark=home, light=away rule.

Not that the Blues or the Highlanders are, or anything.

exactly.

and aaaarrgh. the more I look at it, the more the sword looks like some sort of demented tie...

(Reuben Thorne seen modelling the new jersey here. Heh.)

I was quite surprised when I found myself getting jealous of the bum of the model...

Heh heh. Its actually handy instructions for all the skanks in christchurch. Points them in the direction they need to go.
Hey'retay otnay ootay ightbray in canterbury.

Number one rule in jersey making.. Don't make the back of the jersey different to the front. It's going to be confusing when the Blues are playing away to someone like the Stormers with the same colour blue in their jersey

New Crusaders kits = Comedy Tie.

All the others don't appear to have changed that much bar the subtle embossing and that print on the blues kit.

Oh yes away kits, NH teams have been doing it for years.

You'll be having training Kits and "European kits" next, well maybe not the Euro ones.
Consider yourselves lucky:

The Canes' jersey is really, really different.

Note the increased use of black on the shoulders and the disappearance of the blue except under the armpits.

Very colorful jersey. Are they in one team? Which jersey is their official uniform?

Every second jersey from the left is the home jersey, the others are the away jerseys.
They're five different teams :)

Hello. And Bye. :)
