The Dropkicks is a rugby podcast and sports blog site illuminating your path through the murky world of international rugby, league, cricket, football, baseball, motorsports, golf, netball and competitive eating.
Hi readers,
We have been given three copies of the New Zealand Book of Rugby Lists to give away by Random House.
It's one of those incredibly interesting books filled with rugby trivia that you'd kill to have stashed at your local pub quiz. For example:
The Heaviest All Black pack ever played against Portugal at the World Cup:
- Sione Lauki - 115kg
- Chris Masoe - 106kg
- Ali Williams - 112kg
- Chris Jack - 115kg
- Jerry Collins - 107kg
- Greg Somerville - 115kg
- Andrew Hore - 111kg
- Neemia Tialata - 127kg
- Total - 908kg
It's also jam packed full of history and quotes, like this one from an anonymous fax sent to the team in 1995:
Remember that rugby is a team game; all 14 of you make sure you pass the ball to Jonah.
All of your friends will be incredibly impressed with your rugby knowledge after a few reads of this book. So how can you win one (and few bottles of Epic as well)?
We'll be giving away one book each week over the next three weeks, on Monday we'll tell you what you need to do and then on Friday we'll tell you who won.
Week 1: Given that this a book of lists, we want you to tell us your top five players you love to see play against the All Blacks. Write your answers in the comments, and we'll pick a winner at the end of the week.

Monday, 06 Oct 2008 — Joanna (not verified)My top five players I'd like to see go up against the All Blacks?
1. K-Fed. I think he could use a serious beat-down.
2. Mystery the Pick-Up Artist. He's got height going on, but would he be allowed to wear all his peacocking gear on the field? I don't think so.
3. Flava Flav. He'd be great at calling time-outs.
4. If we're going to have Flav, we gotta have Bret Michaels. He loves watching ladies playing his Mud Bowl, so I'd love to watch his weave get ripped off by some stomping big rugby player.
5. Michael Flaherty. Lord of the dance THIS, buddy!

Vlad the Impaler (for backline penetration)
Sun Tzu (the art of rugby war)

Or failing that the All Blacks tight five from "that test" in Nantes in 1986 (who's got balls now ... huh, huh?!)

Wednesday, 08 Oct 2008 — Gabriel Benjamin (not verified)1) John McCain - Needs to prove to his critics that he won't die before his term
2) Barack Obama - Needs to play at lock to reinforce the phrase "White men can't jump"
3) George Bush - dabled in rugby, and there exist some picture of him putting another player in a headlock and beating him on the head... A sign of how cheating runs in his blood? Could be.
4) Che Guevara - Besides his claim to fame on tee shirts, Che did play rugby. Join the revolution! - or just the exodus north
5) George Gregan - 4 more years, boys. Motormouth, ballerina, rugby great all rolled into one. So good at gobbing off in fact, he eats the credit crunch for breakfast.
