Philadelphia vs Grammar

Posted by Hadyn on Monday, 05 Jan 2009.

When the Philadelphia Phillies were making their run to winning the World Series they had a rallying cry:

Why Can't Us?!

This grammatically challenged sentence came from a sports talk back radio show caller (where else?) named Marty from Delaware. It was put on t-shirts, written on banners and chanted in the streets as Philly fans rioted in happiness.

Now the Philadelphia Eagles are in the play-offs and are in desperate need of a slogan. Enter another eager but spell-check averse fan:

Eagles Wins
Wife Goes to Tampa!

WTF does that even mean? I know that the Superbowl is in Tampa but why is that man's wife going? Even weirder still, he seems to be wearing the jersey of the back-up quarterback.

Still it's a heck of a chant.

Feel free to leave your interpretation of the sign in the comments

RugbyBlips: vote it up!

Maybe his wife is the Eagles fan and if the Eagles win she goes to the Super Bowl while he gets some time alone at home, perhaps get some hookers around etc?

But, surely, as a girl, she shouldn't be allowed to go to the Superbowl? Shouldn't she be stuck in the kitchen with her girlfriends (possibly the aforementioned hookers) talking about shoes?

If the wife is from Tampa, can she support the Eagles?

Maybe he's had a massive bet on the game, and if the Eagles lose he'll have to sell his wife to Tampa? With grammar like that, he's clearly not a thinker.

that's a good one !!! LOL

#10 is not a backup QB, but rather the rookie WR DeSean Jackson, and he's tearing it up this year.

Yeah I should've checked that. I didn't think anyone would be dumb enough to wear a Kolb jersey (is it still Kolb?) Thanks.
